How To Eat Pomegranate

How To Eat A Pomegranate
(without looking like you've committed a mass murder)

So last year I was tired of being a pom-virgin. I wanted to know what all the hype was about. Whenever I told people I'd never had a pomegranate before you'd think I'd announced some atrocious act with the shocked looks I received. I mean seriously, is it really that serious people?

"How the hell do you open these things!?!" Is the first thing I said when I purchased my first pomegranate. I was trying to peel it, then I tried slicing it. Needless to say juice got everywhere! Then I wasn't exactly sure how to eat a pomegranate or what on the pomegranate I was suppose to eat. This thing did nothing but stain everything and get me pissed off. Those lil seeds must really be worth it!

Surely I don't eat the seeds? Do I eat that white stuff? I swear I could have been on a comedy show because I was struggling hard in that kitchen. Common sense should have told me to go look online or ask somebody just how to eat a pomegranate. (Ughh that stubburn Taurus bull in me!)

Anyway, I studied up on the fruit before attempting to eat it again and now I must say I'm in love!!! I feel so "Goddess- like" and healthy when I'm eating pomegranates. I love pomegranates so much now and if pineapples don't watch out, these lil seeds are well on their way to becoming my favorite fruit.

There is just some fun about popping those sweet, tart, crunchy little seeds into my mouth. Not to mention the slew of health benefits that come along with these babies. I've convince my toddler that they are magical candy jewels (Good one, huh? )

If you've ever wondered how to eat a pomegranate then this helpful video I made hopefully will give you some insight and save you the nightmare I had in the kitchen when I was pom-virgin.

Thanksgiving Cooking Tips

How To Survive Thanksgiving Cooking

Is it me or are these holidays just coming and going at the speed of lightening??? Geez Thanksgiving will be here in a few weeks! Well you know what they say, the older you get the faster time flies.  Wow....that was kind of depressing huh?  Anyway, I'm rambling. Let's talk THANKSGIVING!!

For some people the mere thought of having to cook a Thanksgiving meal causes their stomachs to do all kinda strange things and for others it's like a kid at Christmas time. I'm somewhere in between. I've only cooked a full Thanksgiving meal a couple of times. It's not as hard as it may seems but it does require work, proper planning and a glass of wine.

Here are a few tips to make prepping that Thanksgiving meal as stress-free as possible!

Cooking Tips For Beginners

I've been cooking since I was little but I didn't fully understand what it took to throw together a meal until I was married. Truthfully, that first year of marriage was pretty comical when it came to my kitchen skills. I can't tell you how many pots of soggy hamburger helper we've eaten or the many batches of "cajun" biscuits I've made.

Luckily my husband is easy when it comes to eating. He is just as content with a bowl of cereal for dinner as he is with a sizzling T-bone steak. (another reason why I adore my in-laws. They have created this perfect  man who didn't need any training when I got him! : )

The point of this blog post is to say that PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! I know it's cliche' and to me that phrase is quite annoying but with cooking it is soooo true! If you are a beginner cook rest assured that there are many cooking mishaps to be had in your future. Accept them, have a laugh and keep cooking! I mean, it's just food right?
Here are a few cooking tips that will help you along your journey to becoming a fabulous cooking diva!

I will be adding more to this section!

Diva Cooking Tip: How To Peel Cooked Potatoes...FAST!

c

How To Peel Cooked Potatoes...INSTANTLY!!

You know that feeling you get when someone gives you a simple tip that makes your life a tad bit easier. It's a feeling of "aaahhhh cool....why didn't I think of that!" That is the feeling I got when I discovered this handy dandy tip on how to peel a cooked potato easily.

I love potato salad and sweet potatoes pies (any kind of potato dish really) but the one thing I hate is having to peel a cook potato. True the skin comes off fairly easy but it takes so freakin long! Especially if you are peeling a crap load of potatoes.

Here is the easiest way (or at least the easiest way I've discovered) to peel a cooked potato.

Step 1.) Bring a pot of water to a boil.
Step 2.) With a knife, score your potatoes all the way around the center.
Step 3.) Place your potatoes in the pot and boil for about 15 minutes or so.
Step 4.) Prepare a bowl of ice water and place your potatoes in the water.
Step 5.) Swish it around for a few seconds just enough so that it's cool enough to handle
Step 6.) Remove your potatoe from the water and remove the skin. It should slip off instantly.

The Science: The cold water causes the hot potato to instantly contract & separate from the skin.
